The Vaults
your comments review this restaurant
The Vaults has been one of my old favourites in Cambridge virtually since it opened. It has been though a name change or two but the essence is still the same. It balances fair quality cocktails, fair quality food and a decent ambience, creating a safe bet for a pleasant night out should the restaurant lottery once again arise.
The cocktails are classic in nature, and of a price expected of such a venue. A well-received happy hour is also a good warm-up for a night of frivolity (two for one cocktails up to 7pm I believe). The waiters are generally knowledgable about what they do, and have enough flair and charisma to occupy your attention whilst waiting for the beverages.
The food has been a little up and down over the years; once my faviourite eatery it has dwindled in quality slightly over time. However, it has always been very consistent during any particular year, which I believe is a sign of a good eatery. The Tapas-style menu makes choosing your meal more interesting, and it certainly lends itself to a food-based date! Amongst the dishes are pigeon breast with chorizo (very tasty), butternut squash mash, crispy duck pancakes and grilled Halloumi. The service has also always been very good - polite and attentive but not overbearing. The restaurant area is stylish with pleasant mood lighting and the cast-iron tables and chairs give it a rather mediteranean feel.
I would definitely recommend eating here as I know you could do a lot worse in Cambridge!
